Now I’m flexible, I can let you post this up somewhere else, with proper permission from me first. As the Help screen says here at GameFAQs.com, stealing someone else’s work and posting it up somewhere else is considered a SERIOUS OFFENCE. I will trust that you’ll make the right choice. Remember, I have the power to let you use this guide, to remove it from your site or what not if you post it up, and all that jibber jabber. Just ask and it won’t be a problem. Thank you. Only the following sites may use this guide: faqs.ign.com GameFAQs.com dothackers.net ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spacing and Length To make sure that you won’t get a messed up print out of this guide/faq, please make sure that the letters below line up. 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012 ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Now, I wouldn’t exactly suggest printing this guide in its entire form, since it is a lot of pages, and we don’t want to waste ink, paper, and time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Version V.25 – Just started, “Data Drain” and the basics are covered. V.50 – Finished “How to Data Drain” and “Protect Break”. V.75 – “Infection Rate” and part of “Gate Hacking” is comleted. V1.0 – First “full” version of the guide is complete. Final - This is the last version of the guide. No more updates. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Data Drain Data Drain is an ability obtained near the very beginning of the game. It is used to lower the level of enemies to simplify their defeat. You can obtain rare items, weapons, armors, etc from Data Draining enemies. You also use Data Drain (and yes, it is mandatory) to make some enemies (bosses) mortal and defeatable. You also can get Virus Cores which I will explain under the section Gate Hacking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Protect Break Each enemy has a set amount of Hit Points (HP) as you all know. Yet .hack introduces a new concept, Protect Points (PP). You must bring an enemy’s HP down to its PP to be able to Data Drain enemies. Though some enemies are different. Some must have a physical attack used on them to achieve Protect Break and some must have a magical attack used on them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How to Data Drain To Data Drain, you must press triangle to open the personal menu. Then you must move over to the tab entitled “Data Drain”. Click on the Skill called “Data Drain” and select an enemy from the list. Though there may not be any enemy to pick if they are not down to their Protect Points. Once you have done Protect Break on an enemy, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infection Rate Your Infection Rate is the percentage of your character’s (Kite’s) infection from Data Draining. You get a certain amount of Infection Rate percentage added to your total depending on the level difference between you and the enemy (Look in the section entitled “Infection Rate Effects”). You also lose between 1 and 3 percentage from your Infection Rate for every enemy you kill (the number is random). To make it simple, the percentage of your Infection Rate (On the game it does not tell you your exact percentage though you can estimate from the color) is the percentage chance of an effect happening to you. The higher your Infection Rate goes, the higher chance of something bad happening (though not all the effects are bad) to you is. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infection Rate Effects You gain a certain percentage on your Infection Rate depending on the level of the enemy. For every enemy you kill you lose between 1 and 3 percentage from your Infection Rate. Those percentages shown below: Difference –5 or less: Gain +7 Infection Rate Difference –4: Gain +7 Infection Rate Difference –3: Gain +8 Infection Rate Difference –2: Gain +9 Infection Rate Difference –1: Gain +10 Infection Rate Difference 0: Gain +11 Infection Rate Difference +1: Gain +12 Infection Rate Difference +2: Gain +13 Infection Rate Difference +3: Gain +14 Infection Rate Difference +4: Gain +15 Infection Rate Difference +5: Gain +16 Infection Rate Difference +6: Gain +17 Infection Rate Difference +7: Gain +18 Infection Rate Difference +8: Gain +19 Infection Rate Difference +9: Gain +20 Infection Rate Difference +10 or more: Gain +20 Infection Rate You also can have consequences to using Data Drain too much, listed below: 0-24% Range (Blue): -Party’s HP & SP Restored -Party’s HP & SP Restored -Physical Attack Down -Physical Defense Down -Physical Accuracy Down -Magical Attack Down -Magical Defense Down -Magical Accuracy Down -Poison -Paralysis -Slow -Charmed -Confusion -Sleep -Cursed -Lose 200 EXP 25-49% Range (Blue-Green): -Party’s HP & SP Restored -Magical Attack Down -Magical Defense Down -Magical Accuracy Down -Poison -Paralysis -Slow -Charmed -Confusion -Sleep -Cursed -All Paralyzed -All Sleep -Party loses 50% HP -Party loses 50% SP -Lose 400 EXP 50-74% Range (Green): -Everyone’s HP & SP Restored -Poison -Paralysis -Slow -Charmed -Confusion -Sleep -All Poisoned -All Paralyzed -All Paralyzed -All Slow -All Sleep -All Cursed -Party loses 50% HP -Party loses 50% SP -Lose 600 EXP 75-99% Range (Yellow): -Party’s HP & SP Restored -Paralysis -Sleep -All Poisoned -All Paralyzed -All Paralyzed -All Slow -All Charmed -All Confused -All Sleep -All Sleep -All Cursed -Party loses 50% HP -Party loses 50% SP -Lose 800 EXP -Party’s HP & SP down to 1 100% Range (Red): -Party’s HP & SP Restored -All Poisoned -All Paralyzed -All Slow -All Charmed -All Confused -All Sleep -All Cursed -Party loses 50% HP -Party loses 50% SP -Lose 1000 EXP -Lose 1000 EXP -Party’s HP & SP to 1 -Party’s HP & SP to 1 -Lose 1 Item -System Error (Game Over) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gate Hacking This is where it can get a wee bit confusing. Gate Hacking is what you do to get into keyword areas that are protected. You won’t get this ability until later (towards halfway) in the game. Once you receive the ability to Gate Hack, you will learn about Virus Cores. You collect Virus Cores from defeating miscellaneous bosses and enemies. You can only get A, B, and C Virus Cores from normal enemies, but you receive other Virus Cores like F and M for certain tasks. Once you Gate Hack a Protected Area once, you do not need to Gate Hack it ever again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Final Thanks Thanks to the following people, groups and organizations: CjayC - For maintaining this awesome site.
